Steer clear whenever possible

The behavior of a manipulator usually varies depending on the situation they are in. For instance, a manipulator could speak rudely to one person and act politely towards another the next moment.
When you notice such extremes frequently in an individual, it would be advisable to stay away from them. Don't interact with this individual unless you really have to. This will protect you from being a victim of manipulation.
One way to detect a manipulator is to see if a person acts with different faces in front of other people and in different situations while all of us have a degree of this type of social differentiation, some psychological manipulators tend to habitually dwell in extremes, being highly polite to one individual and completely rude to another or totally helpless one moment and fiercely aggressive the next.
When you observe this type of behavior from an individual on a regular basis, keep a healthy distance, and avoid engaging with the person unless you absolutely have to.
The reasons for chronic psychological manipulation are complex and deep seated. It is not your job to change or save them.
If they were someone you got advice from, recognize that their advice isn't something you need in your life. If they continue to offer it, you can thank them for it and then silently discard it.
Be as subtle as you can when setting these boundaries, and don't tell the other person that you are setting them. Creating this change on your end is going to require some energy, and when you anger other person in the process, you will have to handle their reaction on top of that.

Pluralistic is five

I'm on a 20+ city book tour for my new novel PICKS AND SHOVELS. Catch me in SEATTLE TONIGHT (Feb 19) for with DAN SAVAGE, and in TORONTO on SUNDAY (Feb 23) at Another Story Books. More tour dates here.
Five years and two weeks ago, I parted ways with Boing Boing, a website I co-own and wrote for virtually every day for 19 years ago. Two weeks later – five years ago from today – I started my own blog, Pluralistic, which is, therefore, half a decade old, as of today.
I've written an annual rumination on this most years since.
Here's the fourth anniversary post (on blogging as a way to organize thoughts for big, ambitious, synthetic works):
https://pluralistic.net/2024/02/20/fore/#synthesis
The third (on writing without analytics):
https://pluralistic.net/2023/02/19/drei-drei-drei/#now-we-are-three
The second (on "post own site, share everywhere," AKA "POSSE"):
https://pluralistic.net/2022/02/19/now-we-are-two/#two-much-posse
I wasn't sure what I would write about today, but I figured it out yesterday, in the car, driving to my book-launch event with Wil Wheaton at LA's Diesel Books (tonight's event is in Seattle, with Dan Savage):
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/cory-doctorow-with-dan-savage-picks-and-shovels-a-martin-hench-novel-tickets-1106741957989
I was listening to the always excellent Know Your Enemy podcast, where the hosts were interviewing Chris Hayes:
https://know-your-enemy-1682b684.simplecast.com/episodes/pay-attention-w-chris-hayes-OA3C8ZMp
The occasion was the publication of Hayes's new book, The Sirens' Call, about the way technology interacts with our attention:
https://sirenscallbook.com
The interview was fascinating, and steered clear of moral panic about computers rotting our brains (shades of Socrates' possibly apocryphal statements that reading, rather than memorizing, was destroying young peoples' critical faculties). Instead, Hayes talked about how empty it feels to read an algorithmic feed, how our attention gets caught up by it, sometimes for longer than we planned, and then afterward, we feel like our attention and time were poorly spent. He talked about how reflective experiences – like reading a book with his kid before school – are shattered by pocket-buzzes as news articles came in. And he talked about how satisfying it was to pay protracted attention to something important, and how hard that was.
Listening to Hayes's description, I realized two things: first, he was absolutely right, those are terrible things; and second, I barely experience them (though, when I do, it makes me feel awful). Both of these are intimately bound up with my blogging and social media habits.
15 years ago, I published "Writing in the Age of Distraction," an article about preserving your attention in a digital world so you could get writing done. We live in a very different world, but the advice still holds up:
https://www.locusmag.com/Features/2009/01/cory-doctorow-writing-in-age-of.html
In particular, I advised readers to turn off all their alerts. This is something I've done since before the smartphone era, tracking down the preferences that kept programs like AIM, Apple Mail and Google Reader from popping up an alert when a new item appeared. This is absolutely fundamental and should be non-negotiable. When I heard Hayes describe how his phone buzzes in his pocket whenever there is breaking news, I was actually shocked. Do people really allow their devices to interrupt them on a random reinforcement schedule? I mean, no wonder the internet makes people go crazy. I'm not a big believer in BF Skinner, but I think it's well established that any stimulus that occurs at random intervals is impossible to get used to, and shocks you anew every time it recurs.
Rather than letting myself get pocket-buzzed by the news, I have an RSS reader. You should use an RSS reader, seriously:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/10/16/keep-it-really-simple-stupid/#read-receipts-are-you-kidding-me-seriously-fuck-that-noise
I periodically check in with my reader to see what stories have been posted. The experience of choosing to look at the news is profoundly different from having the news blasted at you. I still don't always choose wisely – I'm as guilty of scrolling my phone when I could be doing something more ultimately satisfying as anyone else – but the affect of being in charge of when and how I consume current events is the opposite of the feeling of being at the beck-and-call of any fool headline writer who hits "publish."
This is even more important in the age of smartphones. Whenever you install an app, turn off its notifications. If you forget and an app pushes you an update ("Hi, this is the app you used to pay your parking meter that one time! We're having a 2% off sale on parking spots in a different city from the one you're in now and we wanted to make sure you stopped whatever you were doing and found out about it RIGHT NOW!") then turn off notifications for that app. Consider deleting it. Your phone should buzz when you're expecting a call, or an important message.
Note I said important message. I also turn off notifications for most of the apps I use that have a direct-messaging function. I check in with my group chats periodically, but I never get interrupted by friends across town or across the world posting photos of lunch or kvetching about the guy who farted next to them on the subway. I look at those chats when I'm taking a break, not when I'm trying to get stuff done. It's really nice to stay on top of your friends' lives without feeling low-grade resentment for how they interrupted your creative fog with a ganked Tiktok video of a zoomer making fun of a boomer for getting mad at a millennial for quoting Osama bin Laden. There's times when it makes sense to turn on group-chat notifications – like when you're on a group outing and trying to locate one another – but the rest of the time, turn it off.
Now, there are people I need to hear from urgently, who do get to buzz my pockets when something important comes up – people I'm working on a project with, say, or my wife and kid. But I also have all those people trained to send me emails unless it's urgent. You know the norm we have about calling someone out of the blue being kind of gross and rude? That's how you should feel about making someone's pocket buzz, unless it's important. Send those people emails.
I visit my email in between other tasks and clear out my inbox. If that sounds impossible, I have some suggestions for how to manage it:
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2010/dec/21/keeping-email-address-secret-spambots
Tldr? Get you some mail rules:
add everyone you correspond with to an address book called "people I know"
filter emails from anyone in the "people I know" address book into a high priority inbox, which you just treat as your regular inbox
look at the unfiltered inbox (full of people you've never corresponded with) every day or two and reply to messages that need replying (and those people will thereafter be filtered into the "people I know" inbox)
filter any message containing the world "unsubscribe" into a folder called "mailing lists"
if you're subscribed to mailing lists that you feel you can't leave because it would be impolite, filter them into a folder called "mailing lists" unless the message contains your name (so you can reply promptly if someone mentions you on the list)
The point here is to manage your attention. You decide when you want to get non-urgent communications, and mail-app automation automatically flags the stuff that you are most likely to want to see. For extra credit: adopt a "suspense file" that lets you manage other peoples' emails to you:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/10/26/one-weird-trick/#todo
Now, let's talk about algorithmic feeds. Lots of phosphors have been spilled on this subject, and critics of The Algorithm have an unfortunately propensity to buy into the self aggrandizement of soi-dissant evil sorcerer tech bros who claim they can "hack your dopamine loops" by programming an algorithmic feed. I think this is bullshit. Mind-control rays are nonsense, whether they are being promoted by Rasputin or a repentant Prodigal Tech Bro:
https://conversationalist.org/2020/03/05/the-prodigal-techbro/
But I hate algorithmic feeds. To explain why, I should explain how much I love non-algorithmic feeds. I follow a lot of people on several social media services, and I almost never feel the need to look at trending topics, suggested posts, or anything resembling the "For You" feed. Sure, there's times when I want to turn on the ole social TV and see what's on – the digital equivalent of leaving the TV on in a hotel room while I unpack and iron my suit – but those times are rare.
Mostly what I get is a feed of the things that my friends think are noteworthy enough to share. Some of that stuff is "OC" (material they've posted themselves), but the majority of it is stuff they're boosting from the feeds of their friends. Now, I say friend but I don't know the majority of the people I follow. I have a parasocial relationship (these get an undeserved bad rap) with them.
We're "friends" in the sense that I think they have interesting taste. There's people I've followed for more than a decade without exchanging a single explicit communication. I think they're cool, and I repost the cool stuff they post, so the people who follow me can see it. Reposting is a way of collaborating with other people who've opted into sharing their attention-management with you:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/05/27/probably/
Reposting with a comment? Even better – you're telling people why to pay attention to that thing, or, more importantly, why they can safely ignore it if it's not their thing (what Bruce Sterling memorably calls an "attention conservation notice"). This is why Mastodon's decision not to implement quote-tweeting (over a misplaced squeamishness about "dunk culture") was such a catastrophic own-goal. If you're building a social network without an algorithmic suggestion feed (yay), you absolutely can't afford to block a feature that lets people annotate the material they boost into other people's timelines:
https://fediversereport.com/fediverse-report-104/
Remember how I said the affect of going to read the news is totally different (and infinitely superior) to the affect of having the news pushed to you? Same goes for the difference between getting a feed of things boosted and written by people you've chosen to follow, and getting a feed of things chosen by an algorithm. This is for reasons far more profound than the mere fact that algorithms use poor signals to choose those posts (e.g. "do a lot of people seem to be arguing about this post?").
For me, the problem with algorithmic feeds is the same as the problem with AI art. The point of art is to communicate something, and art consists of thousands of micro-decisions made by someone intending to communicate something, which gives it a richness and a texture that can make art arresting and profound. Prompting an AI to draw you a picture consists of just a few decisions, orders of magnitude fewer communicative acts than are embodied in a human-drawn illustration, even if you refine the image through many subsequent prompts. What you get is something "soulless" – a thing that seems to involve many decisions, but almost all of them were made by a machine that had no communicative intent.
This is the definition of "uncanniness," which is "the seeming of intention without intending anything." Most of the "meaning" in an AI illustration is "meaning that does not stem from organizing intention":
https://pluralistic.net/2024/05/13/spooky-action-at-a-close-up/#invisible-hand
The same is true of an algorithmic feed. When someone you follow – a person – posts or boosts something into their feed, there is a human intention. It is a communicative act. It can be very communicative, even if it's just a boost, provided the person adds some context with their own commentary or quoting. It can be just a little communicative, too – a momentary thumbpress on the boost button. But either way, to read a feed populated by people, rather than machines, is to be showered with the communicative intent of people whom you have chosen to hear from. Perhaps you chose unwisely and followed someone whose communications are banal or offensive or repetitious. Unfollow them.
Most importantly, follow the people who are followed by the people you follow. If someone whose taste you like pleases or interests you time and again by promoting something by a stranger to your attention, then bring that stranger closer by making them someone you follow, too. Do this, again and again, and build a constellation of people who make you smile or make you think. Just the act of boosting and virtually handling the things those people make and boost gets that stuff into your skin and your thoughts:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/07/31/divination/
This is the good kind of filter bubble – the bubble of "people who interest me." I'm not saying that it's a sin to read an algorithmic feed, but relying on algorithmic feeds is a recipe for feeling empty, and regretful of your misspent attention. This is true even when the algorithm is good at its job, as with Tiktok, whose whole appeal is to take your hands off the wheel and give total control over to the autopilot. Even when an algorithm makes many good guesses about what you'll like, seeing something you like isn't as nice, as pleasing, as useful, as seeing that same thing as the result of someone else's intention.
And, of course, once you let the app drive, you become a soft target for the cupidity and deceptions of the app's makers. Tiktok, for example, uses its "heating tool" to selectively boost things into your feed – not because they think you'll like it, but because they want to trick the person whose content they're boosting into thinking that Tiktok is a good place to distribute their work through:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/21/potemkin-ai/#hey-guys
The value of an algorithmic feed – of an intermediated feed – is to help you build your disintermediated, human feed. Find people you like through the algorithm, follow them, then stop letting the algorithm drive.
And the human feed you consume is input for the human feed you create, the stream of communicative acts you commit in order to say to the world, "This is what feels good to spend my attention on. If this makes you feel good, too, then please follow me, and you will sit downstream of my communicative acts, as I sit downstream of the communicative acts of so many others."
The more communicative the feeds you emit are, the more reward you will reap. First, because interrogating your own attention – "why was this thing interesting?" – is a clarifying and mnemonic act, that lets you get more back from the attention you pay. And second, because the more you communicate about those attentive insights, the more people you will find who are truly Your People, a community that goes beyond "I follow this stranger" and gets into the realm of "this stranger and I are on the same side in a world of great peril and worry":
https://pluralistic.net/2021/05/09/the-memex-method/
Which brings me back to this blog and my fifth bloggaversary. Because a blog is a feed, but one that is far heavier on communications than a stream of boosted posts. Five years into this iteration of my blogging life (and 24 years into my blogging life overall), blogging remains one of the most powerful, clarifying and uplifting parts of my day.
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this post to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:

Hi Jack!
If I wanted to get involved in the PJO RPing, how would you advise I start going about that?
This is going to be long
Creating your OC
First (I know it's obvious but still) you need to create your OC.
Don't only make the obvious basic information, but I'd recommend also making some lore for the character
When I'm creating blogs for my OCs, i tend to follow the format of
Name :
Age :
Sexuality :
Godly parent :
Powers :
Status (single/taken) :
And any lore you have for the character can be updated whenever you create more lore
Then you probably need a face claim which I would always recommend using Pinterest and searching with very specific terms
Getting to RP
After you've created your OC, you need to make your own RP style.
For example.
When jack is speaking :
Hey Dae, I talk like this
I bold the text and change it to orange. This way it helps differentiate my OCC posts where I'm just talking to people and RP posts that are in character
You also need to make it clear when your character is doing an action. For example
*Jack waves at you*
I do the same as when she's talking, but I place the action between asteris'
Interacting with people
When you first start rp, obviously you won't know many people in the community, so I would just recommend interacting with as many people as possible, interact with their open starters and send asks.
I know it can seem overwhelming at first, but I promise everyone in the community is welcoming and almost no one bites
Open starters
Once you've been doing RP for a while, or you can do one as an introduction to your character, you might want to do an Open Starter. For these, although you'll want a basic idea of what you want to happen, you also need to be prepared for it to steer away from the direction you wanted it to go, and if this happens you'll just need to go with the flow.
Open starters don't need to be long detailed paragraphs they can just be simple one liners, such as this one, but they can also be long-winded paragraphs like this one
At the end of your Open Starters, always say something along the lines of "tag list....." And you leave it open for the interactor to ask to be added to your list and if they do add them at the end of any future Starters

Welcome to Persophine_Sin!
Hello, lovely people! I’m Persophine (you can call me Sin), and welcome to my blog. This little space of mine will be dedicated mostly to WindBreaker ( webtoon) content, including:
- Headcanons
- Scenarios
- Fanfiction
- Random Ideas that pop into my head.
Let me tell you a bit about myself:
- I love reading novels, but I’m not a fan of romance unless it’s filled with nothing but sweetness. Drama? Hard pass. I don’t enjoy crying over fiction (or in general, really).
- I’ve been writing my own stories on Wattpad since high school—it’s been an amazing creative outlet for me!
- I adore anime and webtoon, especially genres that align with Action and Adventure. Action, character growth, and great storytelling are my thing! (Like Windbreaker,Solo Leveling etc.)
- I’m also into music, and while I’m active on TikTok, I’m strictly a viewer. Watching videos is where it’s at!
- My dislikes? Anything stupid. I have thin patience, so I try to steer clear of unnecessary nonsense.
And lastly, I’m your future psychologist in the making, so I love exploring characters, their emotions, and how they tick (which is probably why I enjoy writing so much).
Feel free to send me asks, requests, or just chat about Windbreaker! I hope you’ll enjoy this space as much as I enjoy creating it.
__________

Meet Sin Castrid
Hello, everyone! Before we dive further into this blog, let me introduce you to my original character (OC) who will appear in my WINDBREAKER headcanons, scenarios, and fanfictions: Sin Castrid.
Appearance:
Sin is an ethereal beauty with a Wolf Cut / Mullet , wavy white hair. His cerulean jewel-like eyes are soft and kind, sparkling with warmth and curiosity. A delicate beauty mark below his left eye adds to his soft charm. He has soft pink lips and a fair complexion that only enhances his gentle angelic look. Almost as tall as Wooin Yoo, Sin carries herself with a quiet softness that draws people to him effortlessly.
What kind of boy is Sin?
Sin is a rare blend of innocence, intelligence, and kindness. Raised in a strict and isolated environment, he exudes an air of purity and gentleness. Despite his sheltered upbringing, Sin is incredibly sharp, thoughtful, and compassionate. He sees beauty in even the smallest things and believes in spreading kindness wherever he goes.
She is naturally curious and loves to learn about the world around him. His curiosity is matched by his bravery, as he's unafraid to stand up for what he believes is right. Though Sin is calm and composed, his warmth and sincerity make him someone people naturally gravitate toward.
Hobbies:
Traveling: Sin loves exploring new places and meeting different people, finding joy in experiencing the world’s diversity.
Taking care of animals and plants: Him nurturing personality shines through in his love for nature and animals. He spends time gardening or caring for stray animals whenever possible.
Reading: Books have always been his escape from reality, and he enjoys immersing herself in stories of adventure, magic, and love.
Writing: Sin occasionally writes his thoughts in a journal, using it as a way to reflect and express himself.
CYCLING: Sin love's cycling and often goes around town till daybreak.
Likes:
Sweet, peaceful moments and people who are kind to others.
The feeling of sunlight on his skin during early morning cycling.
Quiet nights where he can stargaze or sit by a window with a warm drink.
Exploring new foods, especially desserts.
Dislikes:
Cruelty or unnecessary conflict. He finds it heartbreaking to see people hurting each other.
Loud, chaotic environments (he prefers calm and serene places).
Drama (both in life and fiction)—he'd rather focus on positive, heartfelt moments.
Anything that tests his very thin patience.
________
Stay tuned for more, and thanks for stopping by!
LOVE,
Persophine_Sin[🦋]

i have barely any followers so it's less stressful for me ig but sometimes i reblog things i 100% disagree with just because i think that the way they're talking about it is funny. a lot of people act like if you reblog something that means that you're all for that cause but sometimes it's just...funny. and their argument about like, letting bad opinions 'grow' is kind of also weird to me cos it's like - even if a blog had a million followers, it's a random post on tumblr? if they don't like it they can just unfollow 🤷♂️ idk not saying you should reblog those posts or anything - it's just on my mind whenever i reblog something i don't agree with and your post made me think about it again
It's certianly one way of looking at it!
I'm just someone who avoids conflict as much as possible though, even the potential of it 😅
I usually just steer clear of topics that are charged with a lot of opinions - because no matter what side you're on, there's a chance someone will see it and because they don't agree, they decide you're a target. It's just how the internet functions sometimes.
But I've had hate in my inbox before just over my fics or minor posts - and then gotten hate for how I handled it! Some days I'm just not up to inviting people to be angry at me because I found another post funny/interesting.
And one thing I always try to be wary of is the spread of misinformation. Even if a post is just someone's "bad opinion", there's a chance someone else can read the questionable facts of that post as accurate. This is the website of minimal reading comprehension after all 🤣
Sometimes though, it is just best to keep thoughts and opinions to yourself. The specific subject I made that other post about is something I have no personal stake in, its just something I've been sitting on the fringe of as an observer. So I'm hardly an expert, but I've seen enough going around to know my personal stance on it.
But its something that other people are involved in - and positively so. And these are people I've talked to in passing and haven't had any reason to be anything but polite and friendly to and this one thing won't change it. If they enjoy taking part in that topic and aren't harming/being harmed by it, then they can do as they like as far as I'm concerned. I'm not going to police their experience.
But I'm also not going to reblog an actually kind of funny but also a little inflammatory post. Cause yeah, I do find it funny. But I also do my best to keep a certain tone on my blog whenever I can.
#ask selkie#i'm only human so yeah#i'm going to laugh at something then move on with my day#cause i like the community i've fallen into#and i don't want to appear unapproachable to others#just some thoughts

Hello there! I've been going through your blog and reading your posts. I've seen in a bunch of them how you mention that you see Friede having undiagnosed ADHD. Do you have headcanons about it? Thank you and have a nice day!
Heya! Thank you so much for going through my blog! You have no idea how excited I was to get this ask! I've been pretty open about my personal interpretation of him so to see an interest about it makes me happy! I will preface this by saying that once again, this is based entirely on my personal interpretation and my own experience being a (highly likely) undiagnosed ADHD-haver myself cause what better way to cope than inject it into your favs yeah?
That being said, here are my headcanons about it!
Friede's working memory is poor. Unless it's tied to something he's interested in, it's very easy for him to forget things. It's a genuine cause of frustration among his crew seeing that he keeps forgetting to share with them important information. Still, they don't truly hold that against him unless it truly affects the safety of the crew.
Mollie has listed down in Friede's medical file about it, and has subtly brought up the possibility of him getting it tested. Thus far he just doesn't have the time nor opportunity to do so since they keep traveling all around the world. That, and he simply forgot the discussion not too long after.
Friede's mind is often occupied by many thoughts, ranging from his surroundings to Pokemon related matter. It's hard to quiet them down at night, so he typically takes night shift and stays up until he dozes off at the captain's chair.
He stims by drumming his fingers atop the nearest surface, fiddling with the patches on his jacket or rock on his heels when he's deep in thought.
Speaking of patches, he loves collecting them alongside stickers. He has a small box filled with patches he never got around to add onto his jacket. He also has a sticker book filled with stickers he collected throughout his time traveling on the Brave Asagi.
Friede's special interest is Pokemon! He wanted to learn everything about them, and has vast amounts of knowledge about them theoretically. It means that early on in his career as a Professor, he struggled with understanding Pokemon beyond what he read up on them. It took meeting Cap for him to work on expanding his viewpoint.
Always feels like he needs to be doing something at any given point if he's not steering the ship. Has the tendency to simply walk around the Brave Asagi to get the energy out if he has nothing to do at the moment. At times he'll fly out on Charizard until he feels calmer.
Whenever he's bored and by himself without a task to focus on, he paints his nails. He uses clear nail polish typically and finds the act of applying them soothing.
Absolutely cannot stand screechy like sounds. It makes him tense and twitchy, wanting nothing more than to cover his ears and hope that the noise that persists in his ears would quickly fade.
If he's fixated on a task, Friede has the tendency to forgo eating and sleeping until it's completed. Thankfully Murdock's kind enough to leave him easy to eat meals or stores away a portion of something for him to eat later.
When it comes to food, Friede enjoys soft, somewhat chewy textures. Doughnuts hit that specific point of being lightly crispy when freshly fried but also having this nice chew between his teeth (at least the ones that Murdock makes). He hates slimy textures and ones where his brain thinks it'll be one texture but it ends up being another (for example, something that looks like it should be crunchy being soft instead).
While he's better at it, Friede has his moments of impulsivity. This can sometimes translate into recklessness, thus leading to moments where he might need to get patched up by Mollie.
Friede's stubborn in that at times, his long hair feels hypersensitive on the back of his neck or when his bangs cover his eyes but he refuses to get a haircut. Instead he wears his goggles and ties his hair almost the entire day until he goes to sleep in his bed.
Friede has multiple of the black shirts and pants that he wears often. He likes the feel and texture of it, not to mention it's easy to wash. He also have a bunch of t-shirts and casual jackets in his closet but he prefers wearing his current one most days.
On a bad day where he's mentally and emotionally exhausted, he tends to keep to himself. Stays within his room or in the captain's deck, keeping interactions to a minimum.

How can deal with experience pain after a Dental procedure

How can deal with experience pain after a Dental procedure
Patients frequently worry about pain following dental procedures, and knowing how to appropriately handle this discomfort can greatly improve your recuperation. Dr. Nivesh Kakkar Dental Clinic in Ashok Vihar, New Delhi, Teeth Designing in Ashok Vihar put the comfort of our patients first and offer advice on how to manage discomfort following surgery. This blog will provide practical methods for handling pain following dental procedures so that you feel encouraged during the recovery period.
Understanding Post-Procedure Pain
Depending on the type of therapy, there might be a wide range of pain after dental operations. Typical operations that could cause pain include:
Tooth extractions: Extractions of teeth, especially the wisdom tooth (third molar), can cause severe pain and edema.
Root canals: Infected tissue is removed during this surgery, which may result in pain afterwards.
Dental implants: During the recuperation phase, moderate to severe discomfort may arise from the surgical implantation of implants.
Gum Surgery: As the gums heal, procedures such as gingivectomy or flap surgery may cause pain.
Pain usually peaks five to six hours after the treatment and might persist for many days. Setting reasonable expectations for your recuperation is much easier when you are aware of this schedule.
Strategies for Managing Pain
1. Follow Post-Operative Instructions
For your operation, your dentist will give you detailed post-operative care recommendations. These rules are essential for reducing discomfort and encouraging recovery. For the best recovery, always follow these guidelines.
2. Use Pain Relief Medications Wisely
The usage of over-the-counter drugs is frequently necessary for effective pain management. Dr. Kakkar suggests the following strategy:
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs): The first line of treatment for post-procedure discomfort is frequently Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin), a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). For the treatment of mild to moderate pain, 400–600 mg doses as needed every 4–6 hours are usually effective.
Acetaminophen: Using acetaminophen (Tylenol) in place of ibuprofen can improve pain management without raising the possibility of adverse effects that come with taking larger doses of either drug by itself. Taking 500 mg of acetaminophen every four to six hours in addition to ibuprofen is a typical regimen.
Avoid Opioids When Possible: Steer clear of opioids whenever you can. Although they may be prescribed to treat extreme pain, opioids have the potential to cause dependence and adverse effects. According to research, NSAIDs and acetaminophen work better together than narcotic drugs to treat pain following dental procedures.
3. Ice Packs and Heat Therapy
Ice packs can significantly reduce edema and numb the area for the first 24 hours following your surgery. Here's how to accomplish it:
Ice Application: On the first day, apply a cloth-wrapped ice pack to the outside of your cheek for 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off.
Heat Packs: Applying a warm compress can help soothe discomfort and promote blood flow to the area, aiding in healing.
After the initial swelling has decreased (usually after 24 hours), you can switch to heat therapy:
4. Rest and Elevation
Recuperation depends on rest. When you're sleeping or relaxing, keep your head up to reduce pain and swelling. Maintaining height might be aided by using an additional pillow.
5. Eat Soft Foods
Eat only soft foods that need little chewing during the first stages of recuperation, like soups, smoothies, mashed potatoes, and yogurt. Steer clear of meals that are hot, spicy, or crunchy since they may cause irritation to the surgery site.
6. Hydration
Hydration is essential for both general health and recuperation. Drink lots of water, but refrain from using straws for a few days following surgery since suction can cause blood clots to come loose and slow the healing process.
7. Practice Good Oral Hygiene
Maintaining good oral hygiene is vital even after a dental procedure:
Gently brush your teeth while avoiding the surgical site.
Rinse with warm salt water (after the first day) to keep the area clean and promote healing.
8. Distract Yourself from Pain
Engaging in relaxing activities can help take your mind off discomfort:
Listen to calming music or audiobooks.
Practice mindfulness or meditation techniques.
Engage in light activities that don’t require physical exertion.
9. Monitor Your Pain Levels
Monitor your level of pain over time. For additional assessment, get in touch with Dr. Kakkar's office if your discomfort does not go away after a few days or if it gets much worse.
When to Seek Professional Help
While some discomfort is normal after dental procedures, certain symptoms may indicate complications that require professional attention:
Severe Pain: When over-the-counter drugs are ineffective or your pain becomes unbearable.
Swelling: Severe swelling that does not go away in a few days could be a sign of an infection or other problems.
Fever: If accompanied by ongoing pain, a fever may indicate an infection that has to be treated right away.
Bleeding: Get attention immediately if you have severe bleeding that doesn't stop after 30 minutes of applying pressure.
Conclusion
With the correct techniques and assistance from your dental team at Dr. Nivesh Kakkar Dental Clinic in Ashok Vihar, New Delhi, you can control the pain that follows a dental operation. You can guarantee a quicker recovery by adhering to post-operative instructions, administering drugs appropriately, applying cold or heat as necessary, staying hydrated and eating a healthy diet, and keeping an eye on your symptoms.
Please don't hesitate to contact Dr. Nivesh Kakkar Dental Clinic if you require situation-specific guidance or have any queries regarding how to manage discomfort following a dental operation. Our first goals are your well-being and comfort!

Mastering Interior Photography: Tips to Capture the Essence of Your Home

There aren’t many topics as interesting and intimate in photography as our homes’ interiors. Interior photography presents a special chance to highlight the personality and charm of your house, regardless of whether you’re an aspiring photographer or just want to capture the beauty of your living area on camera. But it takes more than just pointing and shooting to become an expert interior photographer. It calls for an acute sense of detail, knowledge of light, and the capacity to evoke feelings through imagery.
If you are looking for interior photographers, then Studio Capture Life offers best-in-class photographers for all your interior photography requirements!
In this blog, we’ll look at some professional tips and methods to help you take gorgeous interior pictures that really show off your house.
Preparation is Key
Set up the area you’ll be shooting in advance of even picking up your camera. Straighten up furniture, get rid of clutter, and clean up any spills. Pay close attention to the little things: fluff cushions, carefully organize décor, and make sure all surfaces are spotless and glossy. In addition to looking better in pictures, a well-organized area will simplify your work as a photographer.
Choose the Perfect Angle
Try a variety of angles to determine which one best suits each room’s layout. Photographing from a corner of the room frequently yields a wider angle and elongates the impression of space. But don’t be scared to use your imagination; though; taking pictures from above or below can emphasize unique architectural details and create visual interest.
Utilize Natural Light
When it comes to interior photography, natural light is your best friend. Try to take pictures during the day while the light is coming in through the windows. Align yourself so that the light is evenly distributed over the room, coming from behind you. Steer clear of direct midday sunshine as it tends to wash out colors and cast harsh shadows. Instead, for the most pleasing effects, go for gentle, diffused light.
Use a Tripod
Whenever possible, use a tripod to guarantee clean, sharp pictures. By doing this, you’ll be able to reduce camera shake and use shorter shutter speeds without compromising the clarity of your images. You can experiment with longer exposures with a tripod, which might be helpful in low-light conditions.
Focus on Composition
When framing your photographs, consider composition. Within the frame, keep an eye out for leading lines, symmetry, and balance. Think about the rule of thirds, which states that important items should be positioned along these lines or at their intersections, splitting the frame into horizontal and vertical thirds. This may result in a composition that is more lively and eye-catching.
Highlight Unique features
Don’t forget to take pictures of the little features that provide character to your house. These little accents, which may be anything from an oddball piece of art to a delightful architectural element, give your room originality and character. To bring these characteristics to life in your images, get up close and try some different camera angles.
Try Different Lenses
When it comes to interior photography, different lenses may produce remarkably different outcomes. Wide-angle lenses work wonders for enlarging small rooms and capturing sweeping perspectives. But watch out for distortion: keep crucial pieces away from the frame’s edges to prevent them from looking deformed or stretched. On the other hand, a longer focal length lens can draw attention to certain details and compress space in a room.
Capture in RAW Format
Instead of JPEG, photograph in RAW format for the most freedom and control over your photos. RAW files are considerably more information-rich and offer greater post-processing modification options. This can be very helpful when modifying color temperature, white balance, and exposure to get the desired effect.
Try A Few Different Post-Processing Techniques
Post-processing can elevate your interior images to a new level. Play around with the exposure, contrast, and color balance with editing software. If you want to straighten lines and fix distortion, think about using lens adjustments. Aim for a natural, genuine style that faithfully captures the space; don’t go overboard.
Conclusion
Interior photography requires time and practice to master, just like any other ability. If the results of your initial projects are not precisely what you had hoped for, don’t give up. Continue trying new things, picking up from your errors, and honing your skills. If you put in the effort and persevere, you can soon be taking gorgeous interior pictures that highlight the features of your house.

How To Invest Like A Pro: 7 Essential Tips For Success
A daunting task, especially for novices, is investing. However, anyone can learn how to invest like a pro with the correct information and strategy.Learning the art of investing is essential for anybody looking to achieve financial security, grow wealth, or plan for retirement. In this short blog post, we'll go through seven key suggestions to help you become a great investor.
1. Set Clear Goals And Establish A Plan
Spend some time defining your financial objectives before you begin investing.Do you invest for long-term growth or short-term profit?Do you want to put money down for a down payment on a home, for your kids' education, or for a comfortable retirement?
Being clear about your objectives can help you choose the best investment approach for your goals.Once your objectives are clear, make a detailed investing strategy. This strategy should include information on the assets you'll prioritize, your risk tolerance, and the amount of money you can afford.
A well-thought-out plan will assist you in maintaining discipline and preventing rash decisions.
2. Educate Yourself
The secret to effective investing is knowledge. Spend some time becoming knowledgeable about various investing possibilities, financial markets, and investment techniques. Read books, go to seminars, keep up with financial news, and think about asking knowledgeable investors or financial consultants for help.
Knowing the fundamentals of investing will enable you to make wise judgments and keep you away from risky or fraudulent operations. Investment involves patience, dedication, and a commitment to continuously learn; it is not a get-rich-quick program.
3. Diversify Your Portfolio
An essential investing tenet is diversification. By spreading your holdings over a variety of sectors and asset classes (such as equities, bonds, real estate, and commodities), you can mitigate the total risk that is associated with your investment portfolio.
Your overall returns will be balanced if other assets provide stability or even outperform when one underperforms. Do not put all of your eggs in one basket. Your savings can be safeguarded during market downturns and can experience consistent growth over the long run with a well-diversified portfolio.
4. Start Investing For The Long-Term
Consider the long term while investing like an expert. Trading and speculating in the short term might result in quick rewards, but they also carry increased dangers. Focusing on the long term, successful investors stick to their investments for years or even decades.
Building wealth requires time in the market, not market timing. Stay loyal to your long-term investment strategy and refrain from responding to short-term market changes.
5. Keep Emotions In Check
Many investors may lose money as a result of making emotional decisions. Often, impulsive behaviors that result in losses are motivated by fear and greed. You need to learn emotional restraint if you want to invest like an expert.
Regardless of market turbulence, stick to your investment plan. Steer clear of making rash decisions motivated by pleasure or fear. Keep in mind that market volatility is common and that it's crucial to maintain your long-term focus.
6. Continuously Monitor And Rebalance The Situation
A set-it-and-forget-it activity, investing is not. Keep a close eye on the performance of your portfolio and make any modifications. To keep your intended asset allocation, rebalancing entails selling overperforming assets and reinvesting in underperforming ones.
You may maintain diversification and fit your portfolio with your risk appetite and investing goals by rebalancing. Aim to evaluate and adjust your portfolio once a year or whenever major life events take place.
7. Start Early And Be Consistent With Your Routine
Because of the power of compounding, investing early and frequently has huge advantages. Your money has more time to grow the earlier you start investing. Over time, even modest, consistent donations can accumulate considerable wealth.
Investing automation can be a helpful tactic. Set up automated deposits into your investing accounts so that you can contribute to your portfolio each month without having to constantly intervene manually.
Conclusion
Anyone may attain financial success through intelligent, disciplined investing; it is not just for a chosen few. You'll be well on your way to constructing a sound financial future by defining clear goals, educating yourself, diversifying your portfolio, practicing long-term investing, regulating emotions, monitoring, and rebalancing frequently, and starting early.
The secret to attaining your objectives when investing is to stick to your plan.

recently realised shakespeare is actually kind of very good & i've seen very few actually good productions of his work. i want to watch more of his work but i have no idea where to start and i'd prefer to avoid films where possible, so are there any recordings on youtube or some google drive or anywhere else online of productions that you know are good, or if not any movie adaptations you think are alright? btw, your blog is pretty cool!!
I completely get the struggle--good shakespeare is unfortunately pretty hard to come by out in the world. I'd love to give some suggestions!! This is gonna be pretty non-comprehensive unfortunately bc most of the best Shakespeare I've seen is...live </3 but I'll give u some places to start, anyway!
So I know you said you'd like to steer clear of movies, and I totally get that bc I honestly do the same, so I'm only gonna rec one:
Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet is genuinely a fantastic adaptation. It's well-acted, well conceived, and it's genuinely just fun to watch all around, and Shakespeare should (above all else, imo) be fun to watch.
Now some non-movies!!
I've no doubt you've encountered it bc it's everywhere, but the Much Ado About Nothing with David Tennant and Catherine Tate is an absolute delight any day of the year.
A lot of Shakespeare companies started offering online programming because of the pandemic, and some of them are still doing it! American Shakespeare Center has a few of their plays available for virtual ticket purchase (I recommend Henry V and Macbeth, I wasn't a huge fan of their All's Well but I'm also not a huge fan of All's Well in general, so take my word or don't) (it says that Macbeth isn't available for some reason but if you poke around on the website the links lead you to you can still purchase it from the calendar I think? Technology is weird, I dunno)
If you're in the UK (or have a VPN that can set ur location to the UK) then the RSC's 2021 Winter's Tale is available until April (so hurry up if u wanna see it lol)
Along that line, RSC has a lot of their stuff recorded and on DVD, so if there's a particular play you're dying to see, they've probably got a version of it, and given that it's the RSC, it's probably at least a comprehensible and well-acted version (everyone's got opinions abt the RSC and I'm no exception, but whatever I think, I've seen them do some damn good stuff so I say go for it) (just make sure, if ur gonna buy a DVD, that it's compatible with ur DVD player, I think their more recent stuff is region 0 but I'm not sure, and it's caused issues for me in the past!!)
If you've ever seen a good Shakespeare play, it's worth checking the company that did it to see if they've got any online programming as well! Look for shows in your area, try to find a company that does classics, maybe look for some outdoor Shakespeare once we hit summer (great thing abt outdoor Shakespeare is that its usually free and you can just leave whenever if you're not enjoying it) and take a chance on a college production or two? They can surprise you
I think that's it for now, I'm sorry I don't have more to offer but unfortunately, I just happened to get lucky with a few really excellent local sources, so I don't have much to offer in terms of what's available online. If anyone has anything to add, please reblog and add on, I'm always looking for more recs, and I'm sure anon is too. Thanks so much for dropping by the blog!!!
#askdrew#shakespeare tag#long post#sorry if this isn't what u were looking for anon i hope it was helpful anyway!!!#good luck to u and if u ever wanna talk shakespeare or ask my opinions on something dont hesitate to drop another ask or dm me!!#i love talking shakespeare any hour of the day

“ well , hello sleeping beauty . you fell asleep on me . ” with SilverAsh
Imagine format; no real fixed perspectives, it switches from Doctor and SilverAsh!
Contains: SilverAsh, gender neutral Doctor, Implied established relationship, and Doctor being gentle with SilverAsh 🥺
Word count: just about 1.6k
--------------------
SilverAsh was quite the busy man; that was obvious to pretty much anybody. Between Karlan Trade Co., Rhodes Island, his affairs in Kjerag and other smaller occasions that called for his attendance, the Feline cherished any free time he had.
Usually, this free time was at night. But even so, he would use some time for leisure, but still left enough hours for enough sleep. Today was different, however.
SilverAsh, unfortunately, had business to attend to at night. Instead of reading or resting that evening, the Feline had sat in a Rhodes Island meeting room attending to conditions and contracts regarding Karlan Trade Co.; what was even less fortunate is that he wasn't able to go back to his room until past midnight.
He didn't get much sleep - his limbs ached from sitting in that dreaded meeting room for hours, and as soon as he finally began getting comfortable, the sun was up.
As much as he wanted to curl up under his covers and hide from the rest of the world, SilverAsh had responsibilities. In fact, he had business to attend to with the Doctor that morning.
At least, he figured, he'd get to see them. The Feline was sure he'd feel better once he saw them.
So, after dressing and washing up a little, SilverAsh left the comfort of his room, albeit it a little unwillingly, and began making it down to the Doctor's office. When he arrived, they beckoned him in with a smile, gathering some papers in their arms.
"Good morning SilverAsh!" Their voice energetic, they gave the Feline a small wave. Managing them a smile while biting back a yawn, SilverAsh walked over to plant a small kiss on the crown on their head, "Good morning, my dear. We have things to discuss today, if I'm not mistaken."
They nodded, "You're a bit late, but I was just on my way out. Follow me!" Grabbing one last paper from their desk, the Doctor headed past SilverAsh and toward the door. The Feline hid a small sigh, stretching out his stiff arms a little before turning around to catch up to the Doctor.
He never thought he'd find just walking so tiring, but by the time they got to the room they needed to be in, SilverAsh just felt more drained than he already was. He put that aside however; he needed to help the Doctor.
The Doctor needed the Feline for his input on a battle formation, which was nothing out of the ordinary. What was odd, however, was the fact that SilverAsh seemed noticeably tired; the Doctor needed both hands to count how many times he had yawned or stretched in the last 15 minutes. It wasn't their business, however - everyone got tired every now and then, especially the Doctor themselves, but it was a little odd to see SilverAsh act so drowsy. They were a little worried about his well being was all.
The pair was sat on the small lounge couch in the meeting room, papers and folders on the small table before them. Throwing around ideas and adjustments to the formations they were looking over, the air was comfortable as usual. When it was just them, like it was then, there was no need for formalities or an uptight attitude.
The Doctor stopped asking their questions for a second, blinking a little at the Feline sitting beside them. Watching as he stifled another small yawn, they hesitantly placed a hand to his shoulder, shaking just slightly. Their voice came concerned, "Are you alright?", but SilverAsh replied with a shake of his head, "Of course, don't worry about myself. Now, regarding this formation…"
He was quick to steer their conversation back to the formations, but the Doctor didn't miss the slight slump of his shoulders or how he'd close his eyes for a few seconds. They discussed plans and looked over papers for a little while longer; after some time, the Doctor cleared their throat, standing up. "I'm going to get something to drink. Would you like anything?" Rubbing at his eyes discreetly, the Feline nodded, "I suppose I will have a cup of whatever you are having to drink, my dear."
Smiling at him and stopping to pat his shoulder, they left the room to retrieve the drinks in question. Once they did, the room was quiet, much too quiet. Without the Doctor: their voice, their shuffling of the papers on the table, them mumbling to themselves under their breath - there wasn't any noise for him to focus on.
As expected, tiredness came over SilverAsh, like a heavy, warm blanket that he couldn't refuse. The Feline scrunched his nose up a little, rubbing at his eyes again in an attempt to wake himself up. There wasn't much use, however. The longer he sat in the quiet room on the comfortable lounge couch, the more heavy his eyelids felt.
What was the point in fighting an enemy he couldn't even grab hold of? His tiredness could only be solved one way - SilverAsh figured a few moments of shut eye wouldn't hurt. So, that's what he did; the Feline sank into the cushions of the couch, trying to get as comfortable as possible in his seated position, before closing his eyes for what he assured himself would only be a few minutes.
However, when the Doctor returned, he didn't wake up. In fact, when they had returned to the room with two cups in hand, they headed towards SilverAsh only to find him completely asleep.
The Doctor blinked at him for a second; he was out like a light: his head was tilted down and his shoulders were slumped over slightly. His arms laid crossed over his chest, and his fluffy tail was curled up with its tip under his nose, covering the lower half of his face.
"....Enciodas?" Using his real name, the Doctor whispered quietly, placing the cups down on the coffee table before peering down to get a better look at his face.
The Feline didn't reply, all that was coming from him was soft snores and calm, steady breaths. The Doctor sighed, smiling lightly at his peaceful facial expression. "You should've said you were tired…" They mumbled, carefully tucking some hair from SilverAsh's eyes.
Carefully as not to wake him, the Doctor sat themselves beside the Feline. Drinks completely forgotten, they carefully moved his head to their lap, lying him down slowly. Once he was laid down, they smiled, allowing him to shift for a few seconds, their grin growing at the small mumbles that came from him before he relaxed.
One of the Doctor's hands rested in his hair, combing the strands gently, while the other gathered the papers on the table in front of them, stacking them and placing them aside. They had done enough work for that day, the most they could do was clean up while SilverAsh slept.
Finished with the papers, the Doctor turned all their attention to the Feline who had his head laid in their lap. They had always been told that SilverAsh was a man with shrewd intentions that would go to any lengths to get what he wanted, but they couldn't understand such a perspective when the man in question was fast asleep using their lap as a pillow.
One could say that SilverAsh had ulterior motives driving his care and affection toward the Doctor, but they knew that wasn't true.
'...how can everyone make you out to be someone like that?', They always thought about that. Evil intentions - they never saw anything even close when looking at SilverAsh. He wasn't perfect, but he wasn't a cold hearted malicious mastermind either.
"Hmm…" A small noise caused the Doctor to snap from their thoughts, and they looked to their lap to find SilverAsh opening his eyes slowly. They greeted him with a small smile, eyes meeting his as they blinked with a bit of surprise.
Unable to contain themselves, the Doctor spoke in a light, teasing tone, "Well, hello sleeping beauty. You fell asleep on me." SilverAsh's eyebrows lifted - he hadn't meant to fall completely asleep. Sighing lightly, he tilted his head to look up at them, "My apologies, my dear…I'm more tired than I thought." His voice was indeed still a little groggy, and his eyes looked like they were threatening to close.
The Doctor smiled, "Don't worry, Enciodas. We can continue working some other time, I think you've done enough for today." Petting his hair softly, their heart swelled when SilverAsh leaned into their touch, "Would you please…let me rest for just a while?"
They chimed with a light laugh, nodding at him, "Go back to sleep. I'll be here whenever you need me." The Feline gave them a lopsided smile, yawning, "Hah…acknowledged…" With that, he was fast asleep again, eyes shut peacefully.
The Doctor was unable to hold back their smile. They knew the right thing to do was to send SilverAsh to his room and complete the work they needed to attend to with someone else, but such actions were out of the question with the Feline sleeping in their lap so calmly.
No, they never saw shrewd intent in him. From the day they met, the Doctor could only ever recall him allowing them to lean on him for support when needed; he wasn't the warmest, but he was always sincere around them - there were no evil motives in the warm he showed them.
Leaning down to leave a light kiss on his forehead, the Doctor spoke one last whisper, "You can always rest on me, Enciodas."
In their world, there were so few things to show warmth to, and SilverAsh was a man who had lost many things, and was bound to lose more. But, even if he had nothing else, the Doctor hoped he knew that he would always have them.
